Are you Licence-Ready?
Many people seek my opinion as to whether they are ready to sit the Restricted/ Full Licence Test.
This is a wise move as many bad habits may have been learned or have adopted through laziness and complacency. It is better to have these bugs ironed out before actually trying and failing. A short drive can highlight the points than can often be remedied there and on the spot. All that needs to be done is to practice the correct method to cement the lesson. A number of my students seek my advice after they have sat and not passed the test.> No problems at all to me to pick them up and prepare them for the next time with driving remedied and confidence restored.
The practical driving test
I can offer a Simulated Driving Test that is designed to prepare you for the real thing. In fact you will be using many of the streets and intersections that you will be encountering when you do your test!
At the end of the drive I will give you a report of things that are acceptable for a pass or the things that need attention, any critical errors and immediate fails that you have made -
all before you actually do your test!
To get your restricted licence
It costs $134.80 to book your restricted practical test and the average pass rate is about 60%. At present my students are passing at a rate of over 85% at the first try - giving them confidence to drive in the real test and pass!.
The restricted practical test is in 2 stages: Stage 1 is about 10 minutes and has 7 assessable tasks. It determines whether you are a sufficiently skilled and safe driver to proceed to the more challenging driving tasks of stage 2. You are allowed 2 critical errors but only one may occur in stage 1. One immediate fail error at any time also means you will fail the test.
To get your full licence
It costs $109.50 to book your full licence test and the average pass rate is about 70%. My students are passing at a rate of over 90%! So even if you have been driving regularly on your restricted licence and consider yourself a good driver, completing a simulated full driving test will better prepare you for your test. Only 1 critical error is tolerated; meaning two critical errors or an immediate fail error at any time will end your test.
Critical errors | Immediate fail errors |
---|---|
Too slow | Testing Officer intervention |
Too fast | Failing to carry out instruction |
Failing to look | Collision |
Failing to signal | Failing to give way |
Blocking a pedestrian crossing | Excessive speed |
Mounting a kerb | Stopping at dangerous position |
Stalling a vehicle | Failing to stop |
Incomplete stop at stop sign | Other dangerous action |
